On the 28th of April 1940 the bombings of Kristiansund started. Next to a city in Malta, Kristiansund was the city in Europe with the biggest percentage of the houses bombed - 70 %. After five years of German occupation the city was to be rebuilt. As a post-war-city all modern houses were built in colours from the whole spectra - everything possible was done to avoid the depressive feeling from the war. Kristiansund was named "the-many-coloured-village" and is still a beautiful sight.
