Pump up is printed!

The roumors have reached me: Pump up Your Rating exists! Next week, I will maybe even see the physical book. I have waited for that moment, of course, but I will keep the book closed.

Several months after the book was finished, I continued to change small things every day, until Quality Chess said «Stop! We have started to edit.»
When I saw the final manuscript I did the same, and I am greatful that Quality Chess showed big patience. I don't like the idea of seeing the book without those changes, but I also know that if I start reading, I will undoubtly find new things that can be explained in a slightly more instructive way. Or even even a typo or two.
But since I don't think these things actually affects the book, I better close my eyes.

It is the same when I am writing for magazines and newspapers - I never read texts when it's too late to change them. In a weekly problem-column in Göteborgsposten, I once had a mate in two but got an e-mail from a reader:

«Mate in two, says Axel Smith. I can mate in one move – g2-g3!»

My heart started to throb and I kept my breath. What had I done? I opened my eyes carefully when reviewing the problem, as if the dangerous thing was seeing it, rather than overlooking a mate in one.

I could smile again. But nevertheless, I will place Pump up Your Rating in the bookshelf unopened.

PUMP UP YOUR RATING
Any man in the street knows how to increase his physical strength, but among most chess players confusion reigns when it comes to improving their playing strength. Axel Smith's training methods have guided his friends, teammates and pupils to grandmaster norms and titles. Hard work will be required, but Axel Smith knows how you can Pump Up Your Rating.

Every area of chess is covered - opening preparation, through middlegame play, to endgame technique. Smith delves into both the technical and psychological sides of chess, and shows how best to practise and improve.

International Master Axel Smith from Sweden has had great success as a coach. Using his methods on himself, in the space of two years he boosted his rating from 2093 to 2458. He is now closing in on the Grandmaster title
